Privacy Policy

Storied Archive helps a family record its stories in a loved one's own voice, transcribe them, search them, and keep them for the people who come after. Those recordings are among the most personal things a person can share, and this policy explains in plain language what we collect, why, who can see it, and how you stay in control.
Your stories are visible only within your family, on the terms each storyteller sets. We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
Storied Archive is operated by Revoice LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("Revoice," "we," "us"). If you have any question about this policy or your information, contact us at support@storiedarchive.com.
Information we collect
We collect only what the service needs to do its job:
- Voice recordings and audio. The recordings a storyteller makes when answering a question.
- Transcripts. The text produced from those recordings so stories can be read and searched.
- Photographs. Images a member attaches to a story or to a question.
- Display names and nicknames. How family members appear to one another.
- Email address. Used to sign you in (we use a one-time email code, not a password) and to send the notifications you have turned on.
- Family relationships. How members are related (for example "my mother," "Nana"), which powers questions and search.
- Device push tokens. An identifier your device provides so we can send notifications, if you allow them.
- Limited usage and diagnostic data. Anonymous, aggregate activity counts and crash or error reports that help us keep the service working. These do not include the content of your stories.
How we use your information
- To present a daily question and record the answer.
- To transcribe recordings so they can be read and searched.
- To let the family search the archive and ask questions of it.
- To assemble answers over time into a living biography of the storyteller.
- To notify family members about new questions, answers, and invitations you have opted into.
- To operate, secure, support, and improve the service.
How your recordings are handled
We want to be explicit about this, because it is not obvious from tapping a Record button. When a story is saved, its audio is uploaded to our servers so your family can play it back and search it, which is the purpose of the app. The transcript is produced in one of two ways: by a third-party speech-to-text service, or, on supported Apple devices, by Apple's on-device speech recognition, which runs locally so the audio is not sent to Apple. Android devices always use the third-party service.
Features that search the archive or generate the biography send transcript text (not your account identity) to third-party artificial intelligence providers to produce a result.
Who can see your information
Storied Archive is built around a family, not the open internet. What you record is visible only within your family's archive, on the terms below:
- The storyteller controls the audience of each story. When a story is saved, its teller chooses who can hear it: everyone in the family, a specific family, selected people, or no one yet (a story can be sealed to open on a future date).
- Shared stories are a family archive. A story shared with the family is meant to outlive the moment and the teller, so it stays part of the family's archive even if the teller later leaves, attributed to their name. You can choose to appear as "a family member" instead.
- We do not read your content. Our operators work from metadata only. The single exception is content a family member formally reports, which an operator may review while that report is open, so we can act on illegal or harmful material.
- We never sell your information and we do not share it for advertising.
How we store and protect it
- Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Story content is protected with per-family content keys, kept separate from operational secrets.
- Access is limited by least-privilege controls, and third-party keys live only on our servers, never in the app on your phone.
- No security is perfect, and we cannot promise absolute security, but we hold your recordings to the standard their sensitivity deserves.
Where your data is processed
Storied Archive is operated from the United States, and your information is processed and stored on servers in the United States. If you use the app from another country, you understand that your information is transferred to and handled in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
When we may disclose information
We do not sell your information or share it for advertising. We may disclose information only in these limited situations:
- to the service providers listed below who process it on our behalf, under contract, solely to run the service;
- to comply with the law, a valid legal request, or legal process;
- to protect the rights, property, or safety of Revoice, our users, or the public, including to investigate or prevent fraud, abuse, or harm, and to meet our reporting obligations for illegal content;
- as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will require the successor to honor this policy and will notify you of any change in who controls your information.
Third-party services we rely on
We use a small number of established providers to run the service:
- Amazon Web Services for hosting, storage, and some artificial intelligence processing.
- OpenAI for speech-to-text transcription.
- Anthropic for the artificial intelligence that answers questions about the archive and helps assemble the biography.
If we add an optional voice feature in the future (for example synthesizing a storyteller's voice), it will be separately opt-in and consented, and we will update this policy before it operates.
Artificial intelligence and your consent
The archive's search and biography features draw only on what your family actually recorded, presented in their own words, with citations back to the source recording. AI-assisted features are opt-in, and any future capability that goes further (such as voice synthesis) will ask for its own explicit, separate consent.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your information for as long as your account and your family's archive are active. Inactivity alone is never a reason we delete anything, because for a storyteller a long silence may be exactly when the archive matters most.
You are always in control, through two clearly labeled choices in the app:
- Leave the family. Removes your private data (your saved questions and profile) and your active participation. Stories you gifted to the family stay in the archive, attributed to your name. Your account is kept dormant with the minimum needed to sign back in if you are invited, and nothing else.
- Delete all my data. The full erasure right. It removes everything you authored from every family at once (your recordings, transcripts, photos, and profile) and deletes your sign-in and email as well.
Both take effect immediately (your content is hidden right away) and become permanent after a 30-day grace period during which you can undo the action. A few honest limits: other people's content that referred to you is not deleted, but your attribution is removed from it; ordinary backups are cleared on their normal rotation rather than edited one record at a time; de-identified data may be retained; and content we are legally required to preserve (for example material reported as child sexual abuse, which we must report to and preserve for authorities) is held until that obligation ends.

Legacy and stories left for later
A storyteller can seal a story to open on a future date, and can designate what happens to their archive after they pass. A departed or deceased member's name stays with their stories as honest attribution and as their legacy, unless they chose to appear anonymously. These arrangements are set by the storyteller, and we will honor a valid legal request from an authorized person consistent with applicable law.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. The deletion tools above satisfy the right to erasure. To exercise any right, use the in-app controls or email support@storiedarchive.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a right.
Photographs and metadata
When you add a photo, we remove its embedded GPS location by default before it is stored. We keep the image and its association with the story or question it belongs to. We do not build features on a photo's embedded capture date.
Children
Storied Archive is intended for people 13 and older, and you must be at least 13 to hold an account. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. A child can still be part of a family's story: recorded as a voice in a parent's telling, or listening on a parent's device, without holding their own account. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact support@storiedarchive.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
