Terms of Service

These terms are a binding agreement between you and Revoice LLC for your use of Storied Archive. Please read them, because they include important limits on our liability and how disputes are handled. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Storied Archive.
1. Who we are
Storied Archive is operated by Revoice LLC, a Texas limited liability company ("Revoice," "we," "us," "our"). You can reach us at support@storiedarchive.com.
2. Who may use Storied Archive
You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live. By creating an account you confirm that you meet this age requirement. A child under 13 can still take part in a family's archive by being recorded in someone else's story or listening on a parent's device, but may not hold their own account. If you manage a family, you agree not to create an account on behalf of a child under 13. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in secure and for activity that happens under your account.
3. Your content, and what the service makes from it
You own what you create. Your recordings, the words you speak in them, and the photographs you upload remain yours. Nothing in these terms transfers that to us.
What the service produces is ours. Storied Archive turns a recording into text, indexes that text so it can be searched, and assembles a biography from it. Those outputs, meaning the transcripts, the search index, and the generated biography, are created by our software and are part of the service rather than part of your content. They belong to Revoice. We grant you and your family a perpetual, royalty-free license to read, search, and use them inside Storied Archive for your own personal and family use, for as long as your account has access to the service. We do not sell them and we do not use them to advertise to you.
What that means in practice. When you export or download your material, you receive the things you made: your recordings and your photographs. Transcripts, search, and the biography are features of the service, so they stay within the app rather than being handed over as files. Two things are unaffected by this. First, if the law where you live gives you a right to obtain a copy of personal data we hold about you, that right still applies in full, and you can exercise it by writing to support@storiedarchive.com. Second, deleting a recording still deletes its transcript with it, and deleting your account still deletes both, exactly as described below and in our Privacy Policy. Our ownership of a transcript is not a reason we keep it after you have asked us to erase it.
Because the purpose of Storied Archive is to keep a family's stories for the people who come after, when you share a story with your family you grant that family a perpetual, royalty-free license to keep, play, search, and pass down that story and the voice in it, for the family's own personal use. You also grant Revoice a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, transcribe, index, display, and process your content solely to operate and provide the service to you and your family (and, for a story you offer to the Community, as described below), and for no other purpose. This is a license, not a transfer of ownership of your recordings or photographs. It does not let us or anyone sell your stories, and your right to erase your content always remains.
Stories you offer to the Community. If you offer a story to the Community, you also grant Revoice a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to copy that story, to adapt the copy by silencing or removing the names and words you choose to take out, or that we take out when we review it, and to make it available to people who use Storied Archive, together with your first name, an approximate age, and your photo if you choose to show it. This license lasts until the story leaves the Community. You can remove the story from the Community at any time, which ends the license from then on, but it cannot undo what listeners have already heard. You must be 18 or older to offer a story. After a storyteller's death, the person who holds their archive as their beneficiary may offer a story for them, and grants this license on the same terms.
When you upload a photograph or any other material, you represent that you have the right to share it and to grant the licenses above, and that it does not infringe anyone's rights.
4. Your responsibility for your content
You are solely responsible for the content you record, upload, or share, and for making sure you have the right to share it, including the consent of other people who appear in it. Storied Archive is a private tool for families, with a Community where storytellers can choose to share a story more widely. Apart from reviewing stories offered to the Community, we do not routinely monitor member content, and we do not endorse it. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Revoice is not responsible or liable for content created by members, and you use and rely on member content at your own risk.
The people around you. When you record, you are responsible for your surroundings. If anyone else's voice can be heard in a recording you make, or anyone else appears in a photograph you add, including a photograph of a person on your family tree who does not use Storied Archive, you are responsible for making sure that person has agreed to it, and for following any law where you are that requires everyone in a conversation to agree before it is recorded. If someone else operates the app for you, for example a relative pressing record on your behalf, what they do is done under your account and is your responsibility.
5. Acceptable use and content standards
You agree not to upload, share, or use Storied Archive for content or conduct that:
- is illegal, or depicts the sexual exploitation or abuse of a child (we report such material to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as the law requires, and preserve it for authorities);
- depicts or promotes violence, abuse, or harm to others;
- you do not have the right to share, or that infringes someone's intellectual property or privacy;
- harasses, threatens, defames, or impersonates another person;
- attempts to breach security, disrupt, reverse engineer, scrape, or gain unauthorized access to the service or its data.
We may remove content or suspend or terminate access for a violation of these standards, as described in Section 14.
Service limits. Storied Archive is built for a family's own use at a human pace. To keep the service working for everyone and to guard against automated or runaway use, we may apply reasonable limits on how often some features, such as Ask, can be used, and we may temporarily slow or pause an account whose activity is far beyond normal personal use. The limits are set so that ordinary members, including very active ones, will not notice them, and the app tells you when one applies and when it lifts. Where a plan is described as unlimited, it means unlimited for ordinary personal and family use within these limits.
Community stories are for people to listen to. Stories in the Community are shared by real people for other people to hear. You may listen to them in the app for your own personal, non-commercial enjoyment, and share them only through the features the app provides. You may not, and may not help anyone else:
- download, record, copy, transcribe, or save Community stories, their transcripts, or the details that come with them (such as a storyteller's name, age, or photo), except through features the app provides;
- collect them by automated means, including bots, scrapers, crawlers, or scripts, or reach them in any way other than through the app as we offer it;
- use them, in whole or in part, to train, fine-tune, test, or improve any artificial intelligence or machine learning system, or put them into any such system for any purpose, including to analyze, summarize, imitate, or reproduce a storyteller's words or voice;
- sell, license, publish, or give them to anyone else.
Using an accessibility tool, such as a screen reader or live captions, to hear or read a story yourself is not a violation.
If you take stories. Taking Community stories in breach of these rules harms the storytellers and the family members named in their stories, whose privacy was trusted to us. It costs us time and money to discover, investigate, and have the stories removed, and it damages the trust the Community depends on. Because these harms are real but difficult to measure, you agree to pay Revoice 1,000 US dollars as liquidated damages for each Community story you take in breach of these rules. You agree that this is a reasonable estimate of that harm and not a penalty. It is in addition to our other remedies: we may end your access immediately and without notice, require you to delete everything you took and confirm in writing that you have, ask a court to stop the misuse, and recover our reasonable legal fees and costs of enforcing these rules.
6. Reporting, blocking, and safety
We take objectionable content seriously and give every member tools to deal with it:
- Report. Content another person shares, such as a story or a photo, can be reported from within the app, with a reason. A reported item goes to an operator review queue, and while a report is open an operator may review that specific content and remove it across the platform if it violates these terms.
- Block. You can block another member, which quietly stops you from seeing their content and stops them from directing questions to you.
- No tolerance. We do not tolerate objectionable content or abusive behavior toward others.
- Contact. You can reach a person about any of this at support@storiedarchive.com.
Copyright complaints. We respect intellectual property rights and respond to notices of claimed copyright infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If you believe material on Storied Archive infringes your copyright, send a written notice to our designated agent that includes: your physical or electronic signature; identification of the copyrighted work; identification of the material you claim is infringing, with enough information for us to locate it; your contact information; a statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on its behalf.

If material you posted was removed and you believe that happened by mistake or misidentification, you may send our designated agent a counter-notice that meets the requirements of 17 U.S.C. 512(g)(3). We may restore the material if the person who complained does not start a court action within the period the law provides.
We will, in appropriate circumstances, end the accounts of members who repeatedly infringe copyright.
7. The family archive, leaving, and deletion
A story shared with a family is meant to last. If you leave a family, the stories you gifted stay in that family's archive, attributed to your name (or to "a family member" if you choose), while your private data and active participation are removed. If you instead choose to delete all your data, everything you authored is erased from every family. Both actions take effect immediately and become permanent after a 30-day grace period. The full mechanics, including what persists, what is deleted, and the limited legal carve-outs, are described in our Privacy Policy and on our account deletion page.
A family owner can manage the roster and remove a member's access, but an owner cannot erase a storyteller's own recordings. Only the storyteller, through their own account, or a valid legal or posthumous process, can do that. This protects each person's archive from being erased by anyone but themselves.
Stories in the Community. Offering a story to the Community is a request, not a guarantee. Every story is reviewed before it is shared, by a person, by automated tools, or both, and we may decline it, or remove a story already in the Community, at any time and at our discretion, including for reasons not listed in the Community guidelines. We may also take words out of a story, whether it is waiting to be shared or already in the Community. When we decline or remove your story, or take words out of it, we will tell you, and where we can, why. Declining or removing a story from the Community does not affect it in your family's archive. You can remove your own story from the Community at any time. We are not obliged to publish, keep publishing, or restore any story, and removing one does not mean we have reviewed or endorsed the stories that remain.
8. Artificial intelligence features
The app uses artificial intelligence to transcribe recordings, make the archive searchable, answer questions, and help assemble a biography from what your family recorded, citing the recordings it draws on. These features rely on third-party providers and can be inaccurate or incomplete. You should check anything important against the original recordings, and you should not rely on these features as a substitute for professional, legal, medical, or financial advice.
9. Our intellectual property
The Storied Archive app and website, the "Storied Archive" and "Revoice" names and logos, and the software, design, and content we provide (everything other than member content) are owned by Revoice LLC and protected by law. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the service, or use our names or logos, without our written permission. If you send us feedback or suggestions, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free license to use them without obligation to you.
10. Subscriptions and payment
Storied Archive is free during its beta. If we introduce paid plans, we will disclose the price and terms before you are charged, and any purchase made through the App Store or Google Play is also subject to that store's terms.
11. Disclaimer of warranties
We work hard to keep your stories safe and the service running, but to the fullest extent permitted by law, Storied Archive is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that transcriptions or AI-generated results will be accurate, or that content will never be lost. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of these may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Revoice LLC and its members, officers, and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, content, profits, goodwill, or the inability to access your archive, arising from or related to your use of the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or 100 US dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you, and nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
13. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Revoice LLC and its members, officers, and contractors from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and reasonable legal costs that arise from content you contribute, your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of the rights of another person, including other people who appear in your recordings or photographs.
14. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Storied Archive at any time and delete your data as described above. We may suspend or end access, or remove content, for a serious or repeated violation of these terms, to comply with the law, or to protect the service or other people (stories offered to the Community can also be declined or removed as described under "Stories in the Community" in Section 7), consistent with our commitment not to extinguish a person's right to their own archive and right to erasure. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including content ownership and license terms, the Community listening rules in Section 5, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution) will survive.
15. Dispute resolution, arbitration, and governing law
Please read this section carefully. It affects how disputes are resolved, and it includes a waiver of class actions and of jury trials.
Informal resolution first. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at support@storiedarchive.com and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally. Most concerns are settled this way.
Binding individual arbitration. If a dispute is not resolved informally, you and Revoice agree that it will be resolved by binding arbitration on an individual basis rather than in court. The arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, before a single arbitrator, and may be conducted by video, by telephone, or in the county where you live. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this section.
Exceptions. Either of us may bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies there. Either of us may also ask a court for an injunction to protect intellectual property rights, and Revoice may ask a court for an injunction to stop the misuse of Community stories described in Section 5, without first waiting for informal resolution.
No class actions, and no jury. You and Revoice each agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate claims or preside over any form of class or representative proceeding. You and Revoice each waive any right to a trial by jury.
Opting out. You may opt out of arbitration by emailing support@storiedarchive.com within 30 days of first accepting these terms, or within 30 days of this section taking effect, whichever is later. Include your name, the email address on your account, and a statement that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out does not affect any other part of these terms.
If part of this section cannot be enforced. If the class action waiver is found unenforceable for a particular claim, that claim will proceed in court rather than in arbitration, and the rest of this section will continue to apply to every other claim.
Time limit for claims. To the extent permitted by law, any claim arising from or relating to these terms or the service must be brought within one year after it arises, or it is permanently barred.
Governing law and venue. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that proceeds in court rather than in arbitration will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and you consent to their jurisdiction, unless applicable law gives you the right to a different venue.
Changes to this section. A change to this section will not apply to any dispute that arose before the change took effect.
16. General
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Revoice about the service and replace any prior understanding. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. These terms do not create any third-party beneficiary rights.
17. Changes to these terms
If we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
